How to Make a Ring Security Box in India: Turning My Nephews into Ring Bearers

watercolor illustration of the joyful indian wedding scene featuring young boys as 'ring security' officers.

When planning our destination wedding, my partner and I wanted every aspect to be personal and unforgettable. One idea that particularly stood out was involving our adorable nephews.

This is when we thought of making them our “Ring Security” officers. This playful twist made them feel special and added a unique flair to our ceremony that left our guests in awe of them. Let me explain in detail.

What is a Ring Bearer?

Traditionally, a ring bearer is a young boy who carries the wedding rings down the aisle, often on a decorative pillow. However, modern weddings have embraced creativity, allowing for both boys and girls to take on this role, and even pets as ring bearer dogs.

Why We Chose the Ring Security Theme?

When we were planning our wedding, we wanted to make sure our nephews felt important and excited about being part of our big day. Simply asking them to carry the rings didn’t seem engaging enough for their energetic personalities. That’s when we came across the idea of transforming them into “Ring Security” officers.

Turning the traditional ring bearer role into a fun and interactive experience was the perfect solution. It not only made our nephews feel like they had a vital mission but also added a unique and entertaining element to our ceremony.

Common Questions we were Asked after our Wedding

  • Is it OK to have a girl ring bearer?

Absolutely! The role is flexible and can be adapted for any child, regardless of gender.

  • Who normally is the ring bearer?

Typically, it’s a young relative or a close family friend who is special to the couple.

  • How Old Should a Ring Bearer Be?

Typically between 3 and 10 years old. However, the child’s maturity and comfort level are more important than age.

  • Do Ring Bearers Carry the Actual Rings?

It’s common to use faux rings for young ring bearers to avoid mishaps. The real rings are often held by the best man or officiant.

Proposing the Role: Crafting the Perfect Ring Bearer Proposal Message

When we decided to have our nephews be part of our wedding as Ring Security officers, we wanted to make the invitation special and exciting for them. We knew that simply asking might not capture their interest or convey how important their role would be. So, we planned a fun and memorable way to ask them.

How We Asked Our Ring Bearers?

My partner and I adore our nephews—they are the youngest and most cherished members of our families. We planned a small family gathering and told our nephews we had a special dessert for them. I handpicked and packed a tray filled with their favorite treats and small toys, placing the piñata cake right in the center.

On the outside, in bright, bold letters, it read: “RING BEARER?”

Their eyes widened with excitement and curiosity. They had never seen a piñata cake before, and the question on top added to the mystery. We handed them small wooden mallets and encouraged them to break open the cake to discover the surprise inside.

With giggles and enthusiastic swings, they cracked open the cake. As the outer shell gave way, a cascade of candies and colorful sprinkles spilled out, along with a rolled-up scroll tied with a ribbon. They eagerly unrolled the message, which read:

“We have carried you in our arms with love in our hearts, now will you carry our rings?”

The room fell silent for a moment as they processed the question. Then, their faces lit up with pure joy. They shouted “Yes!” in unison and jumped into our arms for big hugs.

This special moment was everything we hoped it would be. Not only did it make our nephews feel important and loved, but it also created a joyful memory that we all cherish.

Creating the Ring Security Attire and Accessories

After our nephews excitedly accepted their mission as our Ring Security, we knew that the right outfits and accessories would not only make them look the part but also make the experience even more special for them.

Assembling the Ring Bearer Outfits

We started by thinking about how to make them look like real secret agents. Here’s what we did:

  • Tuxedo Suits: We found the cutest black suits in their sizes. When they tried them on, they looked so grown-up! Seeing their faces light up made us even more excited.
  • White Shirts and Black Ties: To complete the look, we added crisp white shirts and tiny bow ties. They loved getting dressed up and kept admiring themselves in the mirror.
  • Formal Shoes: To tie the whole look together the right formal shoes did the trick.
  • Comfort First: We made sure the clothes were comfortable so they could move around easily and enjoy the day without any fuss.

The Importance of Accessories Like Badges and Sunglasses

All the accessories we used for our Ring security officers

We knew that accessories would bring the Ring Security theme to life. So we focused on adding fun details:

  • Sunglasses: We got them each a pair of black sunglasses. When they put them on, they instantly transformed into mini-agents. They kept saying, “We look so cool!” and honestly, they did.
  • Badges: We ordered custom-made badges that said “Ring Security” with their names on them. Pinning the badges onto their suits made them feel official. They proudly showed them off to everyone.
  • Earpieces: As a fun touch, we found toy earpieces that made them look like real security guards. They pretended to communicate important messages to each other, which was adorable.
  • Ring Security Briefcase: Instead of a ring pillow, we gave them a small black briefcase labelled “Ring Security.” They practised carrying it carefully, understanding they had a very important job to do.
  • Walkie-Talkie: This was an important and cute addition made by my elder nephew.

Making It Personal

After my nephew handed over the ring we shook hands

We wanted the boys to feel truly special, so we involved them in the process:

  • Shopping Together: We took them shopping to pick out their suits and accessories. Letting them choose some items themselves made it more exciting for them.
  • Trying on Outfits: We had a little dress-up session at home where they tried on everything. We played some fun music and turned it into a mini fashion show. They loved every minute of it.
  • Practicing Their Role: We spent time rehearsing with them, so they felt confident walking down the aisle. They took their role seriously, which was both heartwarming and entertaining.

On the Engagement Day

When the big day arrived, our nephews were ready. Dressed in their Ring Security outfits, they looked charming:

  • Walking Down the Aisle: They walked down the aisle with serious expressions, clutching the briefcase tightly. Our guests couldn’t help but smile and chuckle at how adorable they were.

  • Pride and Joy: After the ceremony, they kept telling everyone about their important job. They felt proud, and we were so happy to have included them in such a meaningful way.

Reflecting on the Experience

Looking back, taking the time to create the Ring Security attire and assemble all the accessories was so worth it. It added a unique and personal touch to our wedding:

  • Strengthened Family Bonds: Involving our nephews so deeply made them feel closer to us. It’s a memory we’ll all cherish.
  • Added Fun to the Celebration: The Ring Security theme brought extra joy and laughter to the day, making it even more special.
  • Inspired Others: Many guests commented on the idea, saying they might do something similar in the future.

DIY Ring Security Briefcase: How We Made Our Ring Security Box in India

While I was on a quest to find the perfect ring security briefcases for our nephews, I was stunned by the prices—they ranged from ₹4,500 to ₹5,000 each! Purchasing two would have cost us nearly ₹10,000, which didn’t make sense for something they’d use just once.

So, we decided to get creative and make the Ring Security boxes ourselves. This decision not only saved us money but also added a personal touch to our wedding. Plus, it became a fun project that we could involve the boys in, making them feel even more connected to their special role.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Create Ring Security Briefcase

  1. Gathering Materials from Local Markets and DAISO
    • Small Briefcase or Hard-shell Box: We first found a small black hard-shell briefcase at a local market, but I didn’t like it. So, we went shopping at Lajpat Nagar Market and found the perfect black briefcase at a luggage store. It was exactly what we needed for our Ring Security box.
    • Foam Padding: To secure the rings inside, we bought foam from a local craft store.
    • Ring Box: We went to MR.DIY store and bought 2 ring boxes so we could keep our rings in it and then in the briefcase.
    • Stickers or Stencils: For the “Ring Security” lettering, we used alphabet stickers. Stencils and paint work too.
    • Name Tag Holder: I went to DAISO and found name tag holders with clips.
    • Other Accessories: Small toy badges, stars, or any decorations you like.

  2. Preparing the Briefcase
    • Clean the Surface: We wiped down the briefcase to make sure it was dust-free.
    • Painting (Optional): Since ours was already black, we skipped this step. If you’re painting, apply an even coat and let it dry completely.

  3. Adding the “Ring Security” Label
    • Lettering: For the lettering, I found a “RING SECURITY” design online in a style I loved and had it printed in color. Then, I carefully glued the printed design onto the briefcase. This added the perfect personalized touch to complete our Ring Security briefcase.

  4. Creating the Interior
    • Cutting the Foam: We cut the foam to fit snugly inside the briefcase.
    • Ring Slots: Made small cuts in the foam to hold the ring box securely.
    • Optional Lining: We lined the foam with a piece of black velvet cloth we had at home for a nicer finish.

  5. Finishing Touches
    • Inside Message: We wrote a simple note inside the lid: “Mission: Keep the rings safe until ‘I do!'”

Where to Source Materials

  • Local Markets: We found most items at our local market. In Delhi, we found our Lajpat Nagar, Sadar Bazaar (only good for wholesale goods), DAISO, and MR.DIY.
  • Craft Stores: Shops like Itsy Bitsy or local stationery stores carry foam, stickers, and decorative items.

Role Play: Preparing Our Nephews for Their Duties

We wanted our nephews to feel confident and excited about their important role, so we turned the preparation into a fun experience.

Rehearsals and Building Excitement

  1. Introducing the Mission
    • We sat down with the boys and explained their mission in a fun way.
    • Told them, “You are now our special agents in charge of ring security!”
  2. Practicing the Walk
    • At Home: Cleared space in our living room to act as the aisle.
    • Walking Practice: Showed them how to walk slowly and confidently while carrying the briefcase.
    • Expressions: They loved practicing their serious “agent” faces, but we told them it’s okay to smile too.
  3. Building Confidence
    • Positive Reinforcement: Praised them for doing a great job during rehearsals.
    • Answering Questions: Encouraged them to ask questions so they felt comfortable.

Coordinating Their Entrance with Music

  1. Choosing the Music
    • Picked the “Mission Impossible” theme song–BUT, the “Minion Mission Impossible theme song”—it fit perfectly with the Ring Security theme.
    • Played it during rehearsals so they got used to the timing.
  1. Timing the Entrance
    • Practised when they should start walking as the music played.
    • Showed them where to stand and when to move.
  2. Making It Fun
    • Sunglasses On: They put on their sunglasses right before starting down the aisle.
    • Special Moves: One nephew suggested giving a thumbs-up at the end of the aisle—we loved the idea!
  3. Rehearsal at the Venue
    • Took them to the wedding venue for a real rehearsal.
    • They got familiar with the space, which helped them feel more at ease.

The Big Day: Ring Bearers in Action at the Engagement Ceremony

The day of our riverside engagement finally arrived, and excitement filled the air. Our nephews, now fully prepared and brimming with confidence, were dressed impeccably in their Ring Security outfits.

Seeing them in their little suits, sunglasses perched on their noses, and carrying their personalized briefcases made our hearts swell with joy.

Guests’ Reactions

As the ceremony began, soft music played in the background, and our nephews took their positions at the end of the aisle. The moment they started their walk, a hush fell over the crowd, with the sound of “banana banana banana” filed.

I could hear whispers like,

“Look at those adorable Ring Security agents!” and “What a creative idea!”

The combination of their tiny suits and the oversized briefcases was both charming and amusing. Some guests pulled out their phones to capture the moment, eager to preserve this unique part of our ceremony.

When our younger nephew held up his hand to “stop” imaginary threats along the aisle, the laughter grew. Our older nephew spoke into his toy earpiece, saying, “Ring Security in position,” which only added to the fun. Their commitment to their roles was both endearing and entertaining.

During the reception, they continued to enjoy their roles. They patrolled the venue, making sure everything was in order. Guests found it delightful and engaged with them, asking if everything was secure. Their playful interactions added an extra layer of joy to the celebration.

Our friends and family still talk about how unforgettable it was to see them in action. The photos and memories from those moments are some of our most treasured keepsakes.

Looking back, we’re so glad we chose to personalize our wedding in this way. It reminded us that weddings are not just about two people coming together, but about celebrating with all the loved ones who make our lives rich and full.

Tips for Couples: Unique and Creative Ring Bearer Ideas

When it comes to making your wedding day special, adding personal touches can make all the difference. One of the ways we did this was by getting creative with the role of the ring bearer. While our nephews became our adorable Ring Security officers, we also explored other unique ideas that might inspire you to think outside the box.

1. Incorporating Pets as Ring Bearers

a joyful wedding scene with a dog
Pets as ring bearers

If you’re an animal lover like us, here are some ways to make your pet part of your big day:

  • Pet Attire: Dress your pet in a cute outfit that matches your wedding theme—like a bow tie, floral collar, or even a mini tuxedo.
  • Ring Delivery: Attach the rings securely to their collar or a special harness designed for ring bearing.
  • Pet Escort: Have a trusted friend or family member walk your pet down the aisle to ensure everything goes smoothly.
  • Comfort First: Remember to consider your pet’s temperament and comfort with crowds. Practice beforehand to make sure they’re at ease.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Pet Parade

  • If you have multiple pets or your friends have pets they’re willing to include, consider a pet parade down the aisle. Each pet can wear signage or accessories that spell out a special message.

2. Alternative Items for Carrying the Rings

We wanted our ring presentation to stand out, so we explored various options beyond the traditional pillow or briefcase:

  • Personalized Ring Box: We thought about crafting a custom wooden box engraved with our names and wedding dates. This serves as a beautiful keepsake after the wedding.
  • Ring Bearer Tray: An elegant tray, perhaps silver or mirrored, can add a touch of sophistication. Decorate it with flowers or greenery to match your theme.
  • Book Lover’s Choice: Hollow out a favorite book to create a secret compartment for the rings—a perfect touch for literature enthusiasts.
  • Musical Instrument: If music is significant to you, consider having the rings carried on a small instrument like a ukulele or tambourine.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Floating Rings

  • For a beach or poolside wedding, place the rings on a small decorative boat or float, and have it glide towards you across the water.

3. Creative Ring Bearer Roles

two wedding ring bearer ideas.
Grandparents and kids as ring bearers

Why limit the role to children or pets? Here are some unique ideas to consider:

  • Grandparents as Ring Bearers: Honor your elders by having them carry the rings. It’s a heartfelt way to include them and acknowledge their support.
  • Best Friends or Siblings: If there’s someone special you’d like to involve, ask them to be your ring bearer regardless of age.
  • Multiple Ring Bearers: Have several children walk together, each carrying a part of a sign that reads “Here Comes the Bride” or “Just Wait Until You See Her.”

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Drone Delivery

  • For tech-savvy couples, use a drone to deliver the rings to the altar. Ensure it’s operated by a professional and permitted by your venue.

4. Themed Ring Bearer Attire

Ring bearers in superhero cape, fairy tale costume and miniature version of groom

Make the ring bearer’s outfit a highlight by aligning it with a fun theme:

  • Superhero Cape: Let them wear a cape under their suit, revealing it as they walk down the aisle.
  • Fairy Tale Costume: Dress them as a prince, princess, or knight to add a magical touch.
  • Miniature Version of the Groom: Create a matching suit or outfit that mirrors the groom’s attire.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Character Cameo

  • If you have a favorite movie or book character, have the ring bearer dress up accordingly—think hobbits for “Lord of the Rings” fans or wizards for “Harry Potter” enthusiasts.

5. Innovative Ways to Present the Rings

Make the moment the rings arrive unforgettable:

  • Treasure Chest: Use a small chest for a pirate-themed surprise.
  • Glowing Lantern: Place the rings inside a lantern, symbolizing the light of your love guiding the way.
  • Puzzle Box: Secure the rings inside a puzzle box that needs to be solved at the altar.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Balloon Delivery

  • Attach the rings to a balloon bouquet (securely!) and have it float down the aisle to you.

6. Interactive Ring Bearing

Engage your guests with these participatory ideas:

  • Ring Warming Ceremony: Pass the rings among your guests before the ceremony begins, allowing them to imbue them with good wishes.
  • Secret Messenger: Have the ring bearer deliver a whispered message along with the rings, adding an element of intrigue.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Scavenger Hunt

  • Create a simple scavenger hunt for the ring bearer to “find” the rings during the ceremony, entertaining guests in the process.

7. Personalized Ring Bearing Based on Interests

Infuse your passions into the ring presentation:

  • Sports Enthusiast: Place the rings in a custom-made sports ball—like a baseball that opens up.
  • Travel Lovers: Use a miniature suitcase or globe to hold the rings.
  • Eco-Friendly Options: Use a ring holder made from sustainable materials or even a live plant that can be replanted after the ceremony.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Time Capsule

  • Place the rings in a small time capsule box, symbolizing your commitment to the future, and open it during the ceremony.

8. Musical Accompaniment for the Ring Bearer

Ring bearer unique ideas with live performance and personalized recording

Enhance the moment with the perfect soundtrack:

  • Live Performance: Have a musician play a special song as the ring bearer walks down the aisle.
  • Personalized Recording: Record a message or song that plays when the ring bearer opens the ring box.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Singing Ring Bearer

  • If your ring bearer enjoys performing, they could sing a short song or recite a poem as they bring the rings forward.

9. Incorporating Cultural Traditions

Honour your heritage with traditional elements:

  • Cultural Attire: Dress the ring bearer in traditional clothing representing your culture.
  • Symbolic Items: Include culturally significant objects with the rings, such as a talisman or heirloom.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Fusion of Traditions

  • Blend elements from both partners’ cultures for a unique and unifying presentation.

10. Surprise Elements

Add an unexpected twist to delight your guests:

  • Fake-Out: Have the ring bearer present an empty box, only for the best man or maid of honour to produce the real rings.
  • Magic Trick: Perform a simple magic trick where the rings appear out of nowhere.

Out-of-the-Box Idea: Costume Change

  • Partway down the aisle, the ring bearer removes a layer to reveal a fun costume underneath.

Making Lasting Memories for our Ring Security Officers and Us!

From the moment we asked our nephews to be our Ring Security officers—with a piñata cake surprise and a heartfelt message—the excitement began to build. Crafting their attire, involving them in creating the Ring Security boxes, and rehearsing their important role brought us all closer together. Their enthusiasm was infectious, filling the days leading up to the wedding with laughter and anticipation.

On the big day, seeing them walk down the aisle with confidence and pride, carrying their personalized briefcases, was a sight we’ll never forget. The smiles and delighted reactions from our guests added to the magic of the moment.

Our nephews weren’t just participants; they were stars of the show, and they knew it.

The Ring Security theme allowed us to personalize our wedding in a way that reflected our personalities and values. It reminded us that weddings are not just about two people coming together but about the blending of families and the creation of new, shared memories. By involving our nephews in such a meaningful way, we honoured that connection and created stories we’ll cherish for a lifetime.

If there’s one piece of advice we’d offer to couples planning their wedding, it’s this:

don’t be afraid to infuse your celebration with elements that are uniquely “you.” Whether it’s through a creative ring bearer idea, a special theme, or any personal touch that brings joy to you and your loved ones—those will stand out in your memories and the hearts of your guests.

Our journey with our Ring Security officers was more than just a fun addition to our wedding; it was a reminder of the love and support that surrounds us. It showed us how the simplest gestures, done with love, can create the most profound memories. As we move forward in our lives together, these are the moments we’ll look back on with smiles, knowing that our wedding was not just a ceremony, but a celebration of family, love, and the ties that bind us all.
